Program Debt Swap adalah program pengurangan jumlah hutang luar negeri Indonesia. Dalam rangka mengurangi jumlah hutang Indonesia kepada Jerman, khususnya dibidang pendidikan. Kemdiknas mengajukan usulan Debt Swap VII (Program Beasiswa IGSP : Indonesian-German Scholarship Program) dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan mutu Perguruan Tinggi di Indonesia (dalam bidang Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM)). Program Debt Swap I dan II telah dilaksanakan sebelumnya dalam sektor pendidikan, dibidang pendidikan dasar dan rehabilitasi sarana sekolah.

Scholarships for Undergraduates, Graduates, and PhD students
The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and PhD students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunsthochschulen”). We expect our scholarship recipients to have excellent academic records, to be socially and politically engaged, and to have an active interest in the basic values of the foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self determination and justice.

Next Application Deadlines

A) By 1 September 2011 (postmarked) applications can submitted by:

1. German students and students who have received their university entrance qualification from a German school (‘Bildungsinländer_innen’) and are pursuing their FIRST university degree

• You can apply for a scholarship before your begin your studies or within the first three semesters (at the time of application).
• We especially encourage first-generation students, students with a migrant background and students at universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen”).

2. German students and students who have received their university entrance qualification from a German school (‘Bildungsinländer_innen’) and are studying a MINT subject (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, or technical subjects), especially with anenvironmental focus (e.g. climate studies, renewable energies etc.)

• You can apply before you begin your Master’s programme or within the first semester (at the time of application).

3. Students from the EU (regional focus: Central and Eastern Europe)

• You can apply before you begin your Master’s programme or within the first semester (at the time of application).
• Proficiency in German is a requirement.

4. Doctoral students from Germany or the EU (regional focus: Central and Eastern Europe)

• Applicants must provide proof that they have been accepted as a doctoral student by a German institution of higher education.
• Preference will be given to dissertation projects related to the working areas of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
• Proficiency in German is a requirement.

Program Penataran Guru (Teacher Training Program) adalah salah satu program beasiswa Pemerintah Jepang (Monbukagakusho) yang dirancang khusus bagi para guru untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran sesuai dengan bidangnya. Mereka akan diberikan pelatihan dalam cara mengajar, pembuatan rencana belajar-mengajar yang lebih efektif dan menarik minat siswa dan hal-hal lain yang dapat mengingkatkan kualitas dan kemampuan para guru. Program ini adalah program non-gelar dan lamanya adalah 1 tahun 6 bulan (termasuk 6 bulan belajar bahasa Jepang) dari Oktober 2012.

Setelah Youtube menampilkan wajah barunya, kini giliran Facebook dengan wajah barunya siap memanjakan kita. Tampilan yang pertama dirilis di New Zealand tanggal 7 Desember kemarin mulai dapat kita nikmati. Pihak  Facebook mengungkapkan bahwa ini dimaksudkan untuk memudahkan kita untuk menemukan apa yang telah kita bagikan. Ya, semuanya… sejak aktivasi akun kita pertama kali hingga saat ini dapat kita lihat kembali. Timeline adalah fitur baru Facebook yang menggantikan halaman profil. Fitur ini menunjukkan cerita hidup yang terekam di Facebook, menampilkan semua postingan yang pernah dilakukan dari tahun ke tahun.

Tampilan baru ini membuat Facebook terlihat sangat menarik. Ada beberapa fitur tambahan diantaranya adalah fitur Your Cover. Your Cover ditampilkan  ukuran pixel 640 x 480 yang dapat diambil dari foto kita sebelumnya atau dengan meng-upload foto lain. Ini menjadikan akun kita akan terlihat seperti blog. Formatnya yang berdasarkan garis waktu kegiatan kita di Facebook juga membuatnya terlihat seperti majalah walaupun sedikit agak memusingkan pada awalnya.

Fitur baru yang ditawarkan Facebook adalah Your Story. Seperti yang telah diceritakan diawal bahwa kali ini Facebook menampilkan semua rekaman kegiatan kita selama menggunakan Facebook dari awal terdaftar hingga sekarang. Menu ini tersedia di sebelah kanan atas dengan item per tahun. Seluruh cerita update kita akan muncul, mulai status, foto, notes hingga event. Semua tersaji secara lengkap dari awal sampai sekarang. Fitur selanjutnya adalah Your Apps. Pada fitur ini, kita dapat menampilkan halaman like, games, hingga musik yang kita senangi tanpa harus membuka info pada akun kita ataupun pada akun orang yang akan kita lihat.

Sebelum benar-benar mengaktivasi tampilan Timeline Facebook, Facebook memberikan penawaran percobaan selama 1 minggu. Namun, jika Anda benar-benar mengaktifkan tampilan ini maka cukup dengan klik tombol/ pilihan Get Timeline maka tampilan Facebook anda akan permanen.

Amankah??
Sebelum Anda mem-permanen-kan tampilan timeline ini, Anda harus berpikir masak-masak terlebih dahulu. Seperti yang telah disebutkan di atas bahwa tampilan ini akan memperlihatkan semua postingan kita dari awal hingga akhir. Hal ini ternyata dirasa mengganggu privasi bagi beberapa orang di beberapa negara. Beberapa pengakuan dari mereka yang telah mencoba menggunakannya menganggap ini hal yang sangat bodoh. Bahkan  mereka berniat untuk menutup akun mereka daripada harus menampilkan privasi mereka di dunia maya.

Beragam reaksi muncul pada tampilan menakjubkan jejaring sosial ini. Walaupun perubahan tampilan membuat Profil Facebook User menjadi lebih elegan, rapih dan fresh. Beberapa orang memberi label ‘menakutkan namun cantik’. Di sisi lain, para kritikus meningkatkan kekhawatiran mereka mengenai privasi. Facebook memang masih menyediakan pilihan untuk privasi, terutama untuk memunculkannya pada timeline. Namun ini dirasa masih belum cukup untuk menjaga privasi bagi mereka.

Mereka yang sangat kahawatir akan gangguan keamanan terhadap privasi akunnyanya kini harus mulai berjaga-jaga. Pada Majalah Forbes Amerika, mereka berkomentar, “Ini akan memaksa pengguna untuk melakukan beberapa pemeriksaan privasi. Membatasi item yang di-publish hanya dengan teman saja sepertinya kontrol privasi yang baik, tapi itu tergantung pada seberapa liberal Anda berteman”.

Apakah Timeline akan otomatis aktif begitu kita masuk ke profil Facebook? Tidak. Anda harus masuk ke link ini dan kemudian klik tombol “Get It Now” atau di fitur Bahasa Indonesia bertuliskan“Dapatkan Sekarang”.

Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships

These awards are designed to attract high quality overseas research students to the University of Edinburgh.

At least 30 Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships will be awarded for session 2012-2013.

Each award covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EU graduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses.

Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards are tenable for up to three years.
Eligibility

The awards are open to overseas students undertaking a research degree and may be held in any field of study.

Applicants must be liable to pay tuition fees at the rate applicable to overseas students and must have already applied for admission to a full-time PhD research programme of study or currently be pursuing such a programme.
Academic merit

Applicants must be of outstanding academic merit and research potential.

Although candidates with an upper second class honours Bachelor’s degree (or the overseas equivalent) can be considered, in order to be competitive you should really have a first class Bachelor’s degree supplemented by an excellent Master’s degree.

Other factors such as financial status, nationality and the proposed field of study are not taken into account.
Excluding factors

The University of Edinburgh will not generally consider candidates who have already obtained a PhD, or formal equivalent, as a result of direct research training; or who are due to enter the third year of their PhD programme of study.

Please also note that if you have applied for consecutive registration where you will start your Master’s programme of study in 2012 and your PhD the following year in 2013, that you will not be eligible to apply for an award in 2012.

Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships cannot be held concurrently with fully-funded scholarships such as a Commonwealth Scholarship, or a Marshall Scholarship.

Please note that you will not be able to access the online application form unless you have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh and have full EASE authentication.

The deadline for the receipt of College nominations and associated Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship applications to Scholarshipsand Student Funding Services is 1 April 2012.

Successful applications will receive their Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship result letter in April 2012.

The Sumitro Fellows Program honors Dr. Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, Indonesia’s senior economist and co-founder of USINDO, who passed away in 2001. An architect of Indonesia’s modern economy, Professor Sumitro headed the faculty of economics at the University of Indonesia, and was later a minister of trade and minister of state for research.

Professor Sumitro was also the driving force behind a 1950’s program of the Ford Foundation which sent Indonesian economists to the U.S. for advanced degrees. Many attended the University of California at Berkeley and the group came to be known as the “Berkeley Mafia” when its members assumed key cabinet posts in subsequent decades.
